a thing we never talk about
You have language
You have imagery
But you will never be able to express an idea truthfully and fully that two people understand it the same way
I think if you were able to have a thought and place it in someone's head
Exactly the same way you experience it
the thing we call "art" would be meaningless
I remember thinking this to myself when you told me that suffering made you tougher
You looked away so I couldn't read your eyes
"It would make me happy to watch them suffer"
It wasn't a performance for me
It wasn't a performance for the voices in your head
It was your truth
The proper response would have been something about forgiveness but instead
I told you that I have felt the same way
The human soul dies in that gap
The space between how we are supposed to feel and how we actually feel
If we were hiding in the shadows of our isolating mind,
It's because we are planning the escape
We are running towards each other
Ignoring our instincts
Rejecting comfort
Despite the limitations of language and imagery
We act without bothering to give it a name
We find meaning
We take a thought and place it inside someone's mind
Precisely as we experienced it
